Data Centre Spine & Leaf Optics

Spine-and-leaf networks use high-density links between switching tiers. The right optic depends on port speed, topology, reach, fibre plant, connector system and whether the design uses direct or breakout connectivity.

Selection checklist

Specify the link, not just the speed

Map leaf-to-spine port speeds and oversubscription targets.

Choose SR, DR, FR or LR-class architecture from the actual fibre and reach requirement.

Plan breakout links as a complete system: host, optic, cable and far end.

Use the product specification as the source for exact reach and connector details.

FAQ

Common questions

Which optical standard is best for spine-and-leaf?

There is no single best standard. Choose according to the required reach, installed fibre, connector architecture, breakout requirement and supported host ports.

When should I consider breakout links?

Breakout can increase port utilisation where the host platform and exact optic/cabling architecture support it. Confirm both ends before ordering.

What is the typical lead time?

Photon Optics products are manufactured to order. Typical manufacturing and delivery lead time is 2–3 weeks.
