HPC Optical Interconnects

HPC networks require predictable high-bandwidth connectivity between compute, storage and network infrastructure. Optic selection should begin with the host interface and physical link rather than speed alone.

Selection checklist

Specify the link, not just the speed

Confirm Ethernet or other host-interface requirements from the platform specification.

Match reach and fibre type to the physical HPC link.

Check connector and cabling architecture before selecting the optical standard.

Confirm coding and platform compatibility for the intended host.

FAQ

Common questions

What should I specify for an HPC optical link?

Provide the host platform and port, speed, distance, fibre type, connector and any breakout requirement.

Are form factors interchangeable?

No. OSFP, QSFP-DD, QSFP112 and other form factors should only be used where the host platform supports the exact interface.

What is the typical lead time?

Photon Optics products are manufactured to order. Typical manufacturing and delivery lead time is 2–3 weeks.

Need help specifying the optics?

Send us the host platform, port speed, reach, fibre and quantity. We’ll help identify the appropriate Photon Optics options.
